The next push hands session is on Monday the 14th May 7-10:00pm
The first two sessions have been well attended and well received. we will continue our exploration at the basic single and basic double push hands, going deeper in to the routines with changes and looking at application of form within the basic framework. Initial work is on posture and application of the four directions Peng, loy, ji, aun as well as continuing to explore sensitivity within simple rolling arm exercises.
Next dates for workshops will be posted shortly.
All are welcome on the workshop.

Push Hands Workshops
I will be organising a series of classes specifically to learn and practice the Tai Chi art of pushing hands. These classes will be running once a month initially on a Monday evening for three hours 7:00pm – 10:00pm at the St James Church Hall in Lostock Hall. They are open to anyone who wishes to develop and deepen their practice and understanding of Tai Chi.
What is push hands?
Push hands was developed by the Yang family as a means to explore and develop their martial skill without recourse to injury. Before that practitioners would often have to spend days or weeks recovering from injuries sustained through rigorous practice, often hindering or losing the core principles.
Push hands (Tui Shou) is the link between the form and self-defence and takes on many simple two person exercises or forms. See below.
Does it have any benefits for people who do not wish to practice self-defence?
This form of practice teaches one to strengthen ones Yi (intent) in order to control and mobilise one’s energy system (Chi) and relax the nervous system bringing about self-knowledge, self-confidence and, ultimately, clear dynamic spirit (Shen). It might even be said that without Tui Shou true knowledge and understanding of Tai Chi is severely restricted. It also has a dynamic quality that gives an enjoyable cardio vascular workout.
The three hour class will cost £10. If you are interested please let me know. If there is sufficient interest I would consider running a two hour class weekly.

New Preston Wednesday Evening Class >> More
|
| |
As most of you know I have been looking for a new venue for the Wednesday evening class. I am pleased to announce that from the 4th of May our new venue will be the United Reform Church on Symonds Road, Fulwood. The church is just off the A6 Garstang road between the Blackpool road junction at the corner of Moor Park and the Watling St road junction. Please refer to the Class Times page for details and directions.
The space is about the same size as the Tanterton venue and there is parking off street at the side of the church. Unfortunately I have just received a note from signposts, the company that run the Tanterton centre, saying that the hall can not be used on April the 27th which is a bit of a headache, especially for those who have paid for the month. What I will try to do is for that week accommodate the class at another venue either on Tuesday evening at Ashton Methodist church, or Lostock Hall church on the Monday. This will require me to book an extra hour which shouldn't be a problem as long as I can know for definite which venue will be suitable for the majority.
The Friday evening class is now designated as a form application class where we will be looking more at the self-defence side of Tai Chi and in depth study of puch hands, etc. All levels are welcome.
Finally memberships are due. They should be collected at the beginning of the year but I never seem to get around to it before Easter. It is £30 for the year. £45 family.
